An abundance of natural fauna and flora

The natural conditions of this region have particularly favourable to the diversity of animal and plant life which has made this its habitat.

A nature park and various nature reserves have been designed with a view to protecting and conserving these natural treasures.

The Arrábida Natural Park contains the only surviving example of primitive Mediterranean vegetation, whilst the nature reserves of the Tejo and Sado river estuaries are home to a vast range of birds, as well as dolphins and a striking variety of flora.
